The Melbourne International Gateway, otherwise known locally as the ‘Cheese Sticks’ has become an iconic landmark seen by many travelling on the Citylink Highway in Melbourne.

The landmark was designed by the architectural firm Denton Corker Marshall and unveiled to the public in 2000 and is intended to give viewers the sensation of travelling through a gateway to or from Melbourne.

The 39 red coloured sticks, represents the wheat industry whilst a 70 metre tall yellow rectangular pillar symbolises the Australian Gold Rush of the 1850s.
